OLYMPIA – The Washington State Redistricting Commission (WSRC) will begin holding public outreach meetings regarding the drafting of new congressional and legislative district maps on Saturday, May 22. These meetings will be one of several ways that the public can weigh in on their community, existing congressional and legislative district boundaries, and what the final maps ought to look like.
The first two public comment meetings will be for residents of the 7th Congressional District on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and the 5th Congressional District in the afternoon from 1 - 3 p.m. These meetings are the first of 10 initial meetings scheduled for May and June. Additional public meetings, stretching into July and August, will be scheduled in June.
The meetings will be held on Zoom. If you wish to simply watch the meetings, you may do so at either TVW (for English and Spanish broadcasts) or the Commission’s YouTube page for broadcasts in English with American Sign Language interpretation.
While all are welcome to watch broadcasts of any public outreach meeting, public participation in the meetings is reserved for those from the district being highlighted in that individual meeting. Depending on the number of people who sign up for comment, registrants will have from one to three minutes to make their comments.
If you wish to participate in your Congressional District’s public outreach meeting by giving your thoughts, suggestions, and comments, you will need to register.
