OLYMPIA — For the third time in three weeks, the Redistricting Commission will hold a special meeting in Olympia to review the latest revisions to their draft plans. At Wednesday’s meeting, commissioners plan to discuss population standards for congressional and legislative districts as well as relevant political data.

November’s special meetings have been convened for the purpose of negotiating a single plan that realigns Washington’s 2002 political boundaries. The final plan is due to the Legislature December 15.

In less than a month’s time, the voting commissioners must take four separate plans and merge them into one proposal. Three of the four voting members must approve a final proposal before it’s sent to the Legislature. To review a copy of the special meeting agenda, visit the Commission’s web site at www.redistricting.wa.gov.

The Washington State Redistricting Commission is a bipartisan agency of five commissioners established to redraw legislative and congressional district boundaries every 10 years. When redistricting is completed, the commission will close its doors. In 2011, a new commission will be appointed to ensure that Washington residents are fairly represented in Congress and the Washington.
