OLYMPIA — The Redistricting Commission will hold the third of three public hearings in Spokane Tuesday to take testimony on four draft plans for the 2002 electoral boundaries.

In late September, the Commission’s four voting members unveiled individual draft plans for legislative and congressional districts. Over the next two months, along with gathering public comment, the commissioners will use their draft plans as a starting point for negotiations. Those negotiations, in turn, will lead to a single legislative and congressional plan. A final plan, which must be approved by at least three voting commissioners, is due to the Legislature by December 15.

For directions to Tuesday’s hearing, visit the Commission’s web site: www.redistricting.wa.gov.

The Washington State Redistricting Commission is a bipartisan agency of five commissioners established to redraw legislative and congressional district boundaries every 10 years. When redistricting is completed, the commission will close its doors. In 2011, a new commission will be appointed to ensure that Washington residents are fairly represented in Congress and the Washington.
