  Former director of Public Disclosure Commission is named redistricting chairman
 

Olympia ­ Former Executive Director of the Public Disclosure Commission Graham Johnson has been selected as the 2001-2002 Chairman of the Washington State Redistricting Commission. Mr. Johnson will serve as the non-voting fifth and final member of the Commission responsible for redrawing the state legislative and congressional districts every 10 years.

From 1974 to1993, Mr. Johnson oversaw the PDC, the state agency responsible for the administration and enforcement of political finance law. As Executive Director, Mr. Johnson proposed, interpreted, and implemented agency policy and procedures with a five-member, part-time citizen commission.

Additional experiences include serving as one of Washington’s delegates to the 1995 White House Conference on Travel and Tourism, as the Volunteer Services Coordinator with Washington State Office of Community Development, and as the Director of Public Services for Eastern Washington University.

Mr. Johnson, a Spokane resident and former high school teacher, has a Masters Degree in Education and Guidance Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Education, both from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington.

The four previously appointed Commissioners unanimously selected Mr. Johnson, who will formally begin his term as Chairman at a meeting on Thursday, February 8, starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Commission offices — 3rd floor Republic Building, 505 E. Union Avenue, Olympia (corner of Union and Jefferson).
